Background Information
Personal History:
Born on 4/5/1967 in Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington to Johnal and Marie Calmara, both of whom worked at the Emerald Queen Casino as a croupie's. As an only child James was raised on part of the Puyallup Indian Reservation, though this area is heavily urbanized and highly commercialized, both his parents held on to their heritage and did their best to pass this on to James, he was schooled at Chief Leschi School where he showed an ability in Mathematics and Metalworking, when he was approaching school leaving age, he was looking to go into an engineering field when the military, specifically the USAF, was running recruitment campaign for all areas he signed up out of curiosity, for an engineer post.
Assigned to a search and rescue squadron, a tour in both Bosnia and Kosovo followed along with several periods of readiness Moody AFB was designated a recover station for the space shuttle. His competence and willingness to be a team player brought him to the attention of the stargate program. An offer was made to participate in a top secret project and several years followed developing the X-302, which lead to postings on earths first interstellar battlecrusier, the Prometheus, as part of its fighter deck crew.
He was part way though a stint on the Daedalus, when an offer to join the delta expedition came his way, he accepted and three years of highs and lows followed, as the expedition established a permanent presence in the Delian galaxy and fought hard battles against the Olympians, who lorded it over the rest of the galaxy. Only when the expedition managed to rally and form longstanding alliances with key races in the galaxy were the Olympians pushed back.
The months following the final battle against the Olimpians were moments of change, so.e of which were harder to take than others, with many good friends transferring to other assignments. Calmara elected to stay feeling that his status might help to smooth over the transition, the biggest change being the move from military to civilian leadership and oversight. Although part of him hankered after the old days he did his best to fit into the new setup and aid and mentor the enlisted contingent to do the same. He remained in the Dean Galaxy for the next three years, which included a promotion to Chief Master Sergeant.
Punctuated by the occasional tour on one of the battle cruisers he felt content to ride out the rest of his career in that post. But fate has a way of twisting a person's course, and as he entered his seventh year, it was brought to his attention that the Command Chief of Fleet command would be stepping down at the end of the year. . As it turned out James Calmara was at the top of a very short list to step into the vacant position.
Supprisigly at the offer, he took his time on deciding, unsure if he wanted an earth bound role or a desk bound role, although his duties within the Delta Expedition were more base related and administrative in nature. He took a few weeks on earth as he contemplated his decision, helped by several chats with the chief he would be replacing, who as it happened was Calmara first crew chief on entering the X302 project.
When the official offer was made he accepted and moved back to earth, due to the streamlining and relocation changes his new base was not in the US but in the UK, at RAF Hereford, Fleet Commands home base. The scope of his new role took quite a bit of getting used too, but ever dependable Calmara worked himself into the role, learning the ins and outs and bringing his extensive field experience to the job as well. He a managed to work in several trips to squadron bases and a few spells on the 304s, which helped sait his need to be in the field, although thoughts if Delta are never far from his mind, and the 10th anniversary of its deployment is is something he intends to attend.
Family: Parents: Johnal & Marie Calmara
Personality: A relaxed and easy going exterior that is backed up by the competence and skill built up over years of active service, along with a personal draw to all things technical and the process of turning a concept into reality. Never one to blow his own trumpet and described by one superior as a poster boy enlisted man, James is content being the rock in the middle of a unit, a die-hard team player, an attitude which stems from a wanting a sense of belonging and also a fear of letting the team down, that fear has taken many shapes over the years from mistakes in his maintenance tasks causing problems for others through losing persons on a gate mission to its current face of not being in touch with how broader decisions affect the day to day workload of your averge airman, of which he was once one.
This often goes hand in hand with His only real pet peeve is those who seek their own advantage ahead of the units or who put themselves above others because of some gift or position they might have. To that end heso only found at HQ half the time the rest of the time, he spends at the different squadron sites, and test sites ano construction sites, taking any opportunity to get hands on.
When it comes time to relax, well the simple things, friends, a bottle whiskey and a deck of cards are also that he really needs, cliché yes, but a good one, and good clichés are good.

Faced with a familer bank of monitors all filled with the usual racks of numbers, line graph traces, status warnings, and the camera feed from back end of a 302 strapped to a test and monitoring rig that was the current focus of the personal in the test bunker. He smiled as the readings all matched or exceed the numbers that had been forwarded to Fleet Command HQ, by the development team at the Russian Air Station, he gazed down through the treble plates and re enforced viewing port, which was managing to block out most of the wall of sound from the twin jets.
And now for thrust to full." Stated the Captain, mainly to the a lieutenant at the controls, who was clearly not impressed with his current duty, pilots were all the same never happy with grunt work only glory, although there were a few notable exceptions.
The whine of the engine as it crept up to maximum output was one Calmara was more than familer with and at frankly dangerous quarter at times, but sometimes combat needs dictated a few risks.
A few moments ticked by as the engine power leveled off and all the readings did likewise, a few values crept towards the edge of tolerance but on the whole it seemed that the modifications were first rate.
"As you can see Chief, all readings are green and no issues with control systems." The Captain announced proudly once he was sure of the result.
"It's a beautiful sight that's for sure, I like it, I'm gonna have to go through channels and up the chain but......" He said carefully as he addressed the Captain, and also catching a glance of a certain crew chief, hanging round in the background "You may as well get your machine shop working, pull a reserve aircraft to test status, and get the ball rolling, I can't see there being a problem. All of which should make you crew chief very happy, or give him something else to do for a change."
"Ahh Yimmy the proof of the grease monkey resurface. You begin to sound like that suit wears you now."
"Mickal, that's hurts you know I'd still blead grease, need to keep a facade of buracracey to push things through from time to time."
"You sick around to make a start."
"Unfortunately the facade needs a bit more of a run out, hand over trip to Australia Station........that said an extended stop over on the way back is a definite possibility." Calmara said carefully as he signed a little, although being present for moments like this, when a proven design is modified to make it even more capable in even more situations and eventualities, were a definite perk of his current assignment. James did miss being a part of the team itself and seeing through a project from start to finish, but he also appreciated these advancements and developments were only useful if used the right way, which is where his current role came in. It was while he was musing on the fact, that the equivalent of a airman entered the room and stood smartly to attention, clearly not quite sure who he should be addressing first, he plumped for the highest ranked officer in the room. The Captain running the test. "Excuse the interuption sir, we have a phone call patched in of Fleet Command. It for a Command Chief Calmara."
The Captain then pointed squarely at Calmara while asking, "Who is calling?" clearly still keen to be kept in any sort of loop.
"She says, your number two, and it's not about you flight time but I'm still to remind you. The plane is almost ready, twenty minutes. She on line four" Stated the airman clearly looking confused at some of the points of the message.
"That would be a Senior Technician Ingles, Don't worry about understanding her humor airman, you'll wear yourself out, I work with her and can barely keep up."[/b] Calmara said to the airman, who seemed to relax a little before saluting again before departing the room.
"Well it would seem that's it. Duty calls quite literally this time. Good luck with the testing gentlemen" Calmara quipped glancing at the Captain and Starshina, throwing both of them a quick salute before following the airman out of the door.
There was thankfully an office two doors down, that was also connected to the bases main phone line, he sat on the edge of the desk as he lifted the receiver ano after a pause stabbed a finger at what he hoped was the 'line 4' button. "Okay Ingles, what couldn't wait until I was sunning myself in Australia?"
18 Minutes Later
"Look the crew Sergeant's just stuck his head round the door for a second time I need to get on this flight, do me a favor send one of those nicely aggressive British emails, explain what a the phrase 'full rotation' meant, tell them any other questions can wait until we're wheels down in Perth, it'll be addressed then.
That's an eight hour flight time, chief.
I know, but they've had months to clarify any uncertainty. I'm not jumping through hoops cos some QM Sargent thinks there squadron is the center of the universe. They can wait.
I imagined that would be your responce but had to be sure, I'm typing that email now, have a nice flight Chief.
"Have a nice rant Ingles"
