Fleet Command

Fleet Command (also known as FLEETCOM, Fleet HQ or humorously Starfleet Command) is the organisation responsible for the development, construction and operation of Earth's space interception and battle cruiser fleet. Previously known as the Sixth Air Force (6AF) when the United States was the only participating nation, responsibility for Earth's defensive and exploratory space assets has since transitioned to an international joint command. Fleet Command is typically led by a two-star general or admiral who reports to Homeworld Command, with past commanders including Lieutenant General Maurice Virdine.

The fleet was previously headquartered at Area 51, where cruisers were built, pilots were trained and missions were coordinated. The Wraith attack on Area 51 in 2009 demonstrated the obvious weakness of housing all these vitals functions in one location, and in 2012 command was relocated RAF Hereford in England. Hereford was already well secured as the home of the elite SAS, and it provides a more central and global site for commanding the fleet. An airlift squadron serving the airfield provides transport for persons and material between Earth's various bases.

The de-centralisation of fleet assets has also been extended to Earth-based F-302s, which are now located across the globe in the United States (Groom Lake Air Force Base ), Australia (Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap) and northern Russia.

302-series Fighter Interceptor

The second glider completely constructed by the U.S. government, and the first to be the successful template for an series of spacecraft. The F-302 is armed with advanced weaponry and is extremely durable and forms the bulk of Earth's current fighter inventory, designed to combat enemy fighters and small craft.  It does not possess shields and the hyperdrive system is only capable of small tactical jumps.

The fighter can be deconstructed to be moved through the Stargate, and be reconstructed on the other side. It is propelled by two standard thrusters and one large booster rocket, as was its predecessor. Like its predecessor, the F-302 cannot sustain a hyperspace conduit for any extended period of time, due to the instability of naquadria, used to power the hyperspace engine. But, also like its predecessor, it is capable of short bursts at hyperspace, covering several kilometres in an instant.

Modified versions used for pilot training and electronic warfare, both with specialized equipment that replaces their weapons systems, are known to exist.

Prometheus-class Battlecruiser

With the success of the F-302 interceptor, Earth's military needed a ship capable to delivering the fighter to battle, with the Prometheus filling this role both as a carrier and combat vessel. The class relied heavily on reserve engineered Goa'uld technology, and while an outstanding first generation design, in the long term they could not complete with the vessels of the enemy.

• USS Icarus: In order to maintain relations with the US, Russia was given the plans to the 303 after the Daedalus-class became the focus of production. The vessel was constructed and launched as the RFS Zhukov, named after the highly awarded WWII Soviet general. During her maiden voyage to the Delian Galaxy she was taken over by Ba'al and abandoned with all hands lost. Later recovered under dubious 'salvage laws' that lead to more tensions between the US and Russian. Went on to be the lead vessel in Task Force Ida before being destroyed near Earth in February 2007.

Daedalus-class Battlecruiser

Taking the lessons learned during their production of the Prometheus-class cruiser, Stargate Command and Area 51 scientists soon created a larger and more powerful craft in the form of the Daedalus-class battle cruiser, the immediate successor to the Prometheus. Built to go one-on-one with Goa'uld motherships and Wraith cruiser, this class of vessel has become the backbone of Earth's defensive fleet. The fleet has undergoing upgrades to bring them to “Block II” specifications, which equips each cruiser with an Asgard core and beam weapons along with a clocking shield and upgraded systems.

305-series Shuttle

While Earth's fleet can achieve front line dominance in space combat with its interceptors and battle cruisers, the ever growing fleet has found itself in dire need of a shuttle to carry out support missions. With the number of Ancient Puddle Jumpers slowly dropping due to accidents and destruction the 305 shuttle was created to take over duties as a troop and material transport, as well as serve as a platform for early warning and control missions.

Able to fit through a Stargate and also carrying a small hyperdrive engine, the shuttle is able of operating in all corners of the galaxy. Since launch the 305 has become the 'work horse' of Earth's fleet, and is now a common sight on cruiser air groups and at off-world bases. The shuttles are equipped with Asgard-based passive cloaking fields which make the vessels all but invisible to sensors, though they are still visible to the naked eye. Extensive field testing was conducted in the Delian Galaxy in 2008 before the shuttles were officially adopted by Fleet HQ in 2010.

Special variants for missions such as early warning and aerial command and control are known to exist.

Oedipus-class Supercarrier

With the Goa'uld, the Replicators, the Ori, the Lucian Alliance and the Wraith no longer a threat, the SGC finally has a chance to return to its original mandate - to explore and discover new technologies. The design and construction of the SC-306 reflect this mentality. While twice the length of previous ships and carrying more fighters than ever before, the supercarrier is designed for functionality over fire power. Extensive laboratory space, a large medical ward, refinery and fabrication facilities, and a large contingent of shuttles make the Oedipus-class mobile deep-space exploration platforms, able to house large expeditions and conduct humanitarian missions in support of local populations. A pair of newly reserve engineered Asgard neutrino-ion generators feed the ships huge power requirements, including the on board Asgard data core while allows for a high level of automation and for the ship to be crewed by less personnel than her size would otherwise suggest.

Ships of the Line:

• USS Oedipus: Launched in the middle of 2012, the first vessel of the class was assigned to Task Force Ida to support their return to the Ida Galaxy. The ship was classified as an X-306 for the first few months of operation until final field testing was complete.
• USS Thor: Despite budgetary concerns and an era of relative peace, the USS Thor, named for the Asgard Supreme Commander, was put into production and completed only a few months ago. The vessel is currently undergoing final field testing.
