Background Information
Personal History: (Written Statement by USAF Counselor): Born in Seattle, Washington, Koren grew up in the suburbs called the eastside. Living a fairly sheltered life, complete with two parents made rich by microsoft's booming success in the 90's, Koren made many acquaintances in his childhood, but not many true friends. His closest companion, his sister Katie, was his princess. Since the parents were at work often, and the nanny AIMing people day and night, Koren took care of Katie as best he could, keeping her even more sheltered than he was.
When Koren got into middle school, he was bullied and pushed around. One day, a USAF airman observed Koren being bullied and pulled him aside and told him that the Air Force could teach him how to defend himself from bullies. Inspired by the airman's courage and confidence, Koren began studying, learning and imitating airmen all through middle school and high school until his parents finally let him go to the USAF OTS at Maxwell AFB, AL.
While there, Katie got married to one of Koren's fellow pilots and his close friend, Connor Wright, at the age of 18, just barely out of high school. Koren and Katie's parents were furious and threatened to disown Katie, forcing Koren to threaten to leave the family too if they did. They backed down on their threat and Katie and Connor lived happily for a year, but while on a close fire-support mission in Afghanistan, Connor was shot down and killed right in front of Koren, leaving Katie widowed and Koren devastated. Koren was right there at Katie's side, but their parents slowly backed away, not providing Katie any support and leaving the responsibility of supporting her up to Koren.
In light of Katie needing financial support, Koren seeked out the highest paying assignment possible from the air force. Koren was approached about a top-secret program in the USAF that promised to manage any expenses or care Katie needed so long as he accepted the position with no further information given. Koren, seeing no other option, accepted and entered the Stargate Program.
(Transcript from interview with OTS Commander): A little rough along the edges would be an understatement for this cadet. This boy was in serious trouble since the moment he set foot in OTS. Spoiled rotten, and proud of it, it took a good long while to whip him into shape. His GPA wasn't great, but it was clear that the money the brass were getting was what was pushing him through the door. That, and the boys conviction. He wanted to be here, not in the way most cadets say they want to be here when they really want to run home and cry to mommy. No, he wanted this more than anything. He wanted to be a hero, and we told him we'd make him one.
He scraped through every exam we gave him, but aced pre- and post-flight ops. He wasn't a natural at the stick, but put a few good wingmen on his left and right and that flight was unstoppable. His understanding of battle tactics was excellent, and his thirst to see the enemy burn…well, that was ultimately his downfall.
After graduating from OTS, he flew the standard deployment over Afghanistan. Close-air support, air-superiority, spotting, etc. But during a CAS flight, his wingman and best friend Lt. Connor Wright was hit by anti-air and went down hard, so hard a recovery mission wasn't even scheduled. This really shook the boy up, and he was out for blood. He engaged hostiles before being fired upon on his next flight was grounded for 2-weeks as a result pending investigation, which turned up that he was emotionally compromised, leading to his grounding for the rest of the deployment.
After returning to the homeland, they boy was taken into heavy counseling with his sister, the widowed Katie Wright, and was finally cleared for active duty 6 months later.
The USAF brass weren't so sure he was ready for another flight, but his leadership and adaptability to the raptors unique controls lead them and the SGC to a different idea; train him as an F-302 pilot. The theory being that they would ease him back into combat situations while still utilizing his unique skills as a leader. They placed him aboard the Odyssey and all was well until, on his second flight out, they came under fire from a single unidentified fighter who destroyed his entire flight. Koren managed to knock out the fighters propulsion when he was called to cease fire. Koren did so, proving to the USAF and SGC once and for all that Lt. Koren Telion was once again in control of his emotions.
[Written Statement from Major Telion's file by General Carter] Due to an emergency reinforcement request by the Delta expedition, Koren Telion was assigned to the USS Iliad as Eagle Squadron Leader to support in the final assault against the Olympians. During the engagement, Koren led his squadron in a direct assault against both opposing forces, maneuvering his squadron into the cross-fire, successfully forcing both opposing navies to engage one another due to collateral damage. For this act of heroism and self-sacrifice in combat, Koren has been recommended for the Air Force Cross.
Koren was most recently assigned to the Vedic expedition where he was assigned leader of SV-3 for a few missions before a field injury forced him to return to Earth, where he received the promotion to Captain and the Purple Heart for his service in the Vedic expedition. While Telion has expressed a strong desire to return to Vedas, his current role at the SGC as the leading F-series low/no-orbit flight instructor has been invaluable in training our newest F-series pilots. Last year, he spearheaded Operation Black Widow, a large-scale high-orbital combat simulation geared toward giving veteran and rookie pilots near-realistic large-scale space combat experience. Due to the success and effectiveness of this operation, the Admiral put Koren up for promotion to Major, which was cleared yesterday, and which he will be notified of today during the Delta reunion ceremony, as well as receive the Air Force Cross, for which he was (finally) cleared.
Family:
Katie Telion Wright (sister - FC Ellen Paige [until fc'd by another player])
Connor Wright (brother-in-law - KIA Afghanistan)
Tamea DeLorinth Telion (mother - estranged)
Camron Telion (father - estranged)
Personality: Koren is very old-fashioned, sentimental and sensitive. Probably his sister Katie just rubbing off on him. He is very chivalrous in the old american west kind of way: touch my sister, brother or friend and I'll kill you. Because of Katie, he is very considerate and kind to women; holding doors, giving up his seat, helping them up and down tough terrain or awkward bulkheads/fuselages.
Koren has learned through years of combat and expedition experience that the chain-of-command at the SGC comes well deserved and should be respected. He has the utmost respect for General Carter and Major General Loveridge, though for very different reasons, and has truly found his niche in the Stargate program as a leading flight and training soiree instructor and squadron leader.
Katie (Koren's Sister) is the most important thing in Koren's life. It's why he joined USAF and SGC, it's why he stood up to his parents, it's why he let Connor marry Katie; because she loved him. Everything that matters to him is whatever matters to her, and if Katie asked Koren to quit the SGC, he would. In a heartbeat. his recent field injury has allowed Koren to spend a great deal of time with Katie, and the two are close and healthy, both mentally and physically, with Katie feeling up to dating again and Koren in full support.

Near-complete darkness, and cold. So, so cold. This part always took awhile to get used to. Koren looked directly up out of his cockpit at the much-rumored 'dark side of the moon,' watching it slowly pass over his darkened canopy. Koren's hands rested gently upon the controls to his F-302E as he kept his eyes scanning both the moon's surface and the wide window of space directly ahead of them. He glanced over his shoulder, sharing a tense look with Clark, who immediately looked back down at the radar, one of two currently operational systems in the fighter.
Koren looked over Clark's shoulder, eyeing the outer-most formation of the entire wing of fighters formed on him. A feeling of pride began to well up in Koren's chest; he'd come a long way from a disgraced CAS pilot off the Eisenhower, and seeing so many fighters about to follow him into battle made Captain Telion's eyes water. He caught Clark's eye again, and the Second Lieutenant gave him a frustrated look.
"Sir!" He whispered.
Koren gave a wry, knowing smile, "Sorry, Clark," he said, looking down, "Just getting a little nostalgic."
2nd Lieut. Reed glanced between his scopes and Koren, "Yes, Captain," he sighed, "We can regale all your exploits over a beer at the Legend later, but..." he eyed his CO sharply, "Later?"
"Right," Koren said, his smile gone and focus returning. He turned around and opened up his senses once again. Most would expect space to be silent, but the dust and micro-debris passing over the fuselage with the shields off created a high-pitched crackle not unlike the sound of salt water in the ears. Koren made a mental note to buy the ground crews a case of good wine for all the carbon scoring they were going to have to remove from the micro-debris after this flight, but the maneuver was necessary for the counter attack to work.
Slowly, earth rose over the crest of the moon, marked by a very slight spherical glow and the lights of what looked to be first Berlin, then Paris coming into view. As London scrolled by, Koren finally saw it.
"Eyes on the Atlantic," Koren said to Clark, flexing his hands. It was almost time to go.
"Oh, you beautiful, sexy-" Clark slowly exclaimed, "They're not even showing up on scopes!"
"We can commend them after we eliminate them," Koren said, "How long till they see the fleet?"
"Should be any second now," Reed paused, then sounded concerned, "They'll bite. Surely they'll bite."
"They won't have any idea we've launched. They'll just think they're getting the jump on the fleet." Koren looked back at his flight once more. He hoped his pilots were ready; the effect of their first pass would determine the success of this entire operation. And his career. "Time?"
"Operation scheduled to begin in 5...4..."
Koren saw the flair of engines from the enemy fleet below; they were biting, and biting hard. Koren punched the 'REBOOT' button on his darkened dash. Immediately, his HUD began reinitializing, then overlayed the AR program designed specifically for this operation.
"...3..2.."
'LOADING COMPLETE. BATTLEFIELD SIMULATED REALITY ACTIVE'
"...1." The screen flickered, then Koren saw the first simulated shot ring out from the enemy fleet, still masked from the simulated sensors realistically by the magnetic field distortion off the earths surface. Koren opened his comm.
"Eagle Flight," Koren called, the familiar adrenaline rush of combat filling his veins. He smiled wickedly in-spite of himself; This never gets old. "Scorpio."
OOC: May I just say, it feels amazing to finally be back.
