Personal History:
Katherine Marie Harris was born on June 7, 1978, in Perry, Georgia. Her mother was a librarian and her father was the owner of the local repair shop; she was the middle child of four kids, she had two older twin brothers and one younger sister. Growing up she spent more time in her dad's shop than any of the Harris kids; her brothers were busy chasing rabbits and blowing up hot wheels and her sister was more interested in how many time she could dress up Barbie. Kata went thru school like any other child; everything came to her with ease, she was always interested in sciences, yet she hated math.
When she was in her second year of high school her grandfather died; he and Kata had been close, when she was younger she would spend hours following him around his farm listening to stories of his time in the Navy, it was at his funeral that she began to get interested in the military. Two Years later she graduated high school, she didn't delay in signing up for AF ROTC at the University of Georgia, she soon graduated with a degree in Aerospace Studies. While in college Kata was able to start on her flight training, during her senior year she received her Civilians Pilots license, with her high score on the AFOQT the Air Force was quick to send her to more extensive Pilot training. She attended flight school at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi, one year and six months later she walked across the stage and received her set of wings.
Her first real assignment was at MorĂ³n Air Base in Spain, she was a member of the 496th Air Base Squadron, mainly running exercises out over the Mediterranean and keeping a eye on things in the middle east. She was overseas for two years before she was transferred back to the States. Over the next five years Kata went everywhere from England, France, Spain and even Turkey, she once spent six months on a Aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf keeping a eye on a dispute in the Middle East.
After five years of flying, she finally used up all her vacation time and headed home, three months of vacation and spending time with the family. Everything seemed perfect, her parents enjoyed having her home and she was able to meet her oldest brother new wife. One afternoon Kata and her father James were coming home from the hardware store, James was driving. On their way home a drunk driver ran the red light and t-boned the car that Kata and her father was in. Jim Harris was killed instantly, Kata was thrown from the car but survived. She awoke two days later in a hospital, her worse injury was a sprained wrist, other than that she had a few cuts and bruises.
She spent the rest of her time off burying her father and making sure she would be able to go back to her job. She passed the physical and psych test, she was reassigned from the 469th to the 23rd Wing 'Flying Tigers', based out of Pope AFB, North Carolina. She spent her time flying F-16's and running training exercises. In 2001 two planes flew into two buildings in NYC, that day Kata and the other members of her Squadron, along with several other squads spent the day and majority of the night on high alert. Over the next few weeks her fellow squad mates were sent to new posts, and for a while it seemed like everyone but her was going somewhere. It would be another few years before anything would happen, and when it did it came in the form of a high ranking Air Force Officer and a man in a suit. They asked her the normal security questions, some that seemed rather odd, but when was it in the military's plan to be normal. After a few more questions and inquiries, she was asked if she would be interested in being a part of a group going on a expedition, the group was a mix of civilian and military personal from several countries. They called this expedition "The Atlantis Project", and told Kata she would find out more if she decided to join it. After realizing the men were completely serious she decided to agree to be apart of this "expedition". What she didn't know is that it was a trip that would take her far from earth.
Her time on Atlantis was more than she could ask for, she saw and experienced things beyond her imagination. It was during her time on the city she was able to try flying in space for the first time, her ability as a pilot came in handy when the Wraith decided to attack the city. At first the outcome of what now was known as "The Siege of Atlantis" was grim, but lucky for the expedition the Daedalus arrived and helped out. She stayed on with the Atlantis Expedition for another four years, before finally returning to Earth for some long needed leave. Harris fully expected to rejoin the Atlantis Expedition but was reassigned to the Delta Expedition, under the command of Colonel Loveridge. She was with the Delta expedition for what felt like only a short while before suddenly being told one day by her superiors that she was being reassigned to the Vedic Expedition. She was selected due to her now rather extensive time in the Stargate Program, the Vedas Expedition would prove to be one of the most challenging assignments she has had to date.
She was with the Vedic Expedition almost two years, serving as the commander of the expeditions SV-2 team and leading numerous off world missions, before eventually returning home after learning of the death of her mother. After spending a rather brief amount of time with her family, Kata realized that once again she was longing to be back with the people and the place she had learned to call home, and thus returned to the Vedic Expedition and her position as the leader of SV-2.

Personality:
Kata loves her family and friends, and will stick by them come hell or high water. She often doesn't tell people something is bothering her because she doesn't like to worry people around her. She is a woman of action and will do what is needed even if she is the only one who does it. Kata is loyal to her friends and teammates till the end, she will will tell the truth and listen when you need an ear.
Her time in the service has changed her, she is not as naive as she once was, she now knows that death will take everyone and anyone it does not matter who and just because you can trust someone one moment does not mean you will be able to trust the same person the next time you call on them.
She loves her job, even though it has taken her very far from home oftentimes for months on end, but her career choice is not without her consequences. Her relationship with her family has become strained, and Kata does have a degree of guilt for not being there for her siblings when they needed her (for example her mothers death) but at the same time over the years Kata has found it harder and harder to go home, she would much rather stay working.

"This is exactly what you did last time!"
"I don't understand why you can't stay longer, maybe visit for a while.."
"Do you know what it was like hearing mom ask for you and us not being able to give her an answer?"
Kata opened her eyes and looked out into the front yard, her siblings voices echoed in her head. It was always a nice thing to come home and see everyone after being gone for so long, but at the same time she always seemed to come home to the same unanswerable questions. Her family knew she was in the military but it got to the point where they realized that the "I work in Colorado" excuse you had been using for years, was not true at all. Not in the slightest.
Coming home this time was harder. Maybe it was the birthdays and holidays she had missed, the family gatherings and dinners, or it might be the fact that her mother had had a stroke, and then lain in a hospital for several weeks before dying. By the time Kata had learned of the stroke, her siblings were already burying their mother. Her oldest brother James told her to not feel guilty, they had no way of knowing things would go that way. Nor did Kata have any power in how fast she was able to get home.
Kata leaned back on the old wooden swing and sighed, the familiar creaking of the wood as she swung back and forth was comforting, it seemed like yesterday she had sat on this same porch, watched a storm rolling in, all while talking with her mother and promising to come home. That had been the only thing Amelia insisted on, that all her children, one way or another come home. This time there was no storm, just another lazy southern evening, her mother was not sitting beside her but buried a few miles away at the local cemetery and there was no one telling her to come home, because everyone knew that what she considered home was several light years away.
