Background Information
Personal History: Born in Potsdam, New York on December 10, 1955. Childhood friend of Jax Connolly. Moved around a lot, especially after both parents killed in plane crash 1965. James Connolly adopted him, and raised him through his school years. In high school, Alec attended Army JROTC along with Jax Connolly, and the two were always working side-by-side. After joining the Marines, Alec lost contact with Jax until both were selected for Force Reconnaissance. Alec married Jeannine Louise Carter on May 7, 1993 and remained married until her death on January 3, 2005.
Alec joined the United States Marine Corps at 18 along with 17-year old Jax Connolly. Alec often got Jax into trouble at basic, though mostly from attempting to outdo each other in every aspect of training. Alec graduated basic training on August 12, 1974. He and Jax were both classified as Honor Graduates, in fact the top two of their class. Alec constantly badgered Jax because his final evaluation score was 1.7 points higher than Connolly’s. They both began college in mid-August 1974. Alec, unlike Jax, chose to stay an enlisted man after earning his Bachelor’s Degree. Selected for Force Reconnaissance in 1981. Soon thereafter, he was assigned to the 1st Force Reconnaissance Company under his new CO, Captain Jax Connolly. The two were overjoyed at being reunited, and worked well together until the time Jax was promoted out of Force Reconnaissance. Alec continued his service through Force Reconnaissance all the way until his retirement in 1999. In early 2005, his close friend Colonel Connolly approached him with news on the Stargate Program. He accepted the offer and became the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Commander of the Delian Galaxy Expedition. He served in this capacity until being reassigned for an unknown classified operation in January 2008, returning to the expedition in April 2008.
Following the completion of his tour of duty in the Delian Galaxy, Alec retired for good from the Marine Corps. In 2010, his local US Congressman chose not to run for reelection amid election fraud allegations, and Styles was approached to run in a special election to replace him. Not one to turn away from his community, the former Sergeant Major ran a successful campaign and became the newest US Representative from the 18th Congressional District in Florida. Serving on both the House Armed Services and Intelligence Committees, Rep. Styles stayed in close contact with his associates at Homeworld Command and the SGC.
In 2014, the newly sworn-in Secretary of State summoned Styles to his office, and offered him a position as Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights. The post involves leading State Department efforts to prevent and counter threats to civilian security and effective governance, such as terrorism, violent extremism, conflict, mass atrocities, and transnational crime. The seven bureaus and offices reporting to the Under Secretary advance the security of the American people by assisting countries around the world to build more democratic, secure, stable, and just societies.

Family: No living relatives
Personality: Having worked his way up from being a line grunt, Styles had the stern, cocky attitude most Marines exude. Having a strained relationship with his family at the time, he jumped headfirst into everything Leatherneck. He thought of himself as invincible, and had the ego to match it.
This all changed during his first combat deployment. Being sent to a remote area of Africa to provide support in an Embassy evacuation sounds thrilling and heart-pumping to a gung-ho jarhead. When things took a turn for the worse and his battle buddy took a round to the face in their convoy, it turned his views around. No longer wanting the stereotypical attitude most Marines hold, he pledged to be a guiding mentor and trainer, while still getting the job done.
His long career in the Marines earned him the respect of countless Marines and civilians alike that he worked with. His gruff exterior hides a gentler, more compassionate inside. Do not let the good nature fool you, though - the man has more combat time behind him than most career foot soldiers will see in five lifetimes.

1512 Hours
State Department Building
Washington, DC
Seated on the couch in his office, a bespectacled older gentleman with graying hair was reading a tablet. His tie was loosened, and his blazer was hung on a coat rack near the doorway. A light knock was heard on his door, and without turning toward it, the man uttered, ”Enter.”
The door opened, and in entered a late-20s redheaded woman wearing a conservative navy blue skirt and white shirt. Her hair was pulled back into a tight ponytail, in a remarkable attempt to keep her naturally-frizzy mane contained. She smiled at the older gentleman, and spoke up with a slight smirk, “Good afternoon, Mr. Under Secretary.” Stepping over to him, Madison smoothed her skirt as she sat on the other side from him. “Have you gotten used to the title yet?”
Taking a deep breath and setting the tablet aside, Alec Styles removed the reading glasses and folded them up, sticking them into the chest pocket of his shirt. Shooting a look of mock disdain to the woman, he replied, ”I think I prefer the actual battlefields over Washington bureaucracy.” Madison shook her head and said, ”You know, you have to be careful. You are technically a bureaucrat now.”
Alec made a face, retorting as his cell phone rang, ”Please, don’t remind me.” Answering the phone, he said, ”Alec Styles.” He listened for a few moments, and then replied, ”Tell the General I would be honored to attend. Thank you.” Hanging up, he turned to Madison, ”Well, looks like I just got an invite to a very private party with some close friends.”
